ABOUT DEREK SHIN

Derek Shin is an acupuncturist and a teacher of Acupressure at the National Wellness Institute of Education based in Toronto, Canada.

At the Wellness Institute he teaches healthcare professionals from across the country about how to use acupressure in their practices.


ABOUT ACUPRESSURE

We teach acupressure because it’s simple, safe and it really works!

It’s based on a philosophy that is more than 5000 years old. The philosophy that all we are is energy! That all physical things come from a universal source of energy which is the basis of Taoism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Zen.

Up until a hundred years ago this was thought to be just a philosophy of religion or spiritualism. Until Einstein and Bohr and all the great physicists of the last century proved that the ancients were right – that all we are is energy and this energy connects everything.

In China this energy is called Qi, in Japan Ki, in the India it’s Brahman, and in the North American native cultures it is the Great Spirit. When this energy is in balance our organs, tissues, emotions, energy and spirit are healthy. When it’s out of balance there’s dysfunction and disease.

That’s where acupressure comes in. There are certain points on the body that affect our energy. These points have been studied and mapped out for thousands of years and are the basis of modern day Acupuncture, Acupressure, and Shiatsu.
